Seattle Storm Waives Veteran Guard Lexi Brown
The Seattle Storm announced on Monday that they have let go of Lexi Brown, a veteran guard who played for the team over the past two seasons.
At 31, Brown had an average of 3.8 points across 14.8 minutes per game, shooting an impressive 45% from beyond the arc. Prior to joining the Storm, she played for several teams, including the Connecticut Sun, Minnesota Lynx, Chicago Sky, and Los Angeles Sparks.
With Brown now waived, she joins a growing list of players seeking their next opportunity.
Brown is known for her ability to space the floor, boasting a career three-point shooting percentage of 35.4%, alongside solid ball-handling skills. While her future is uncertain, a few teams might consider adding her to their roster.
The Sparks could benefit from a backup guard to support Kelsey Plumb. Brown, when at her best, can be a solid defender and a reliable three-point shooter. Given that the Sparks are currently shooting 32.7% from three this season, her presence could potentially enhance that statistic. As an older team looking for a win, they might find her experience valuable.
The Mercury, on the other hand, are struggling with their three-point shooting, currently at just 31.3%, making them one of the least effective teams in the league. With a dismal 4-9 record, they might be more open to making changes and bringing in players like Brown who can help with spacing, ball handling, and defense.
The Mystics are also dealing with challenges, hitting only 29.7% of their three-point attempts, ranking as the third-worst in the league. They have the youngest roster in the WNBA, so bringing in a player with Brown’s experience could be advantageous. However, with a focus on developing younger talent, they might prefer to continue providing opportunities to their existing players rather than signing a 31-year-old veteran.
There’s also the possibility that Lexi Brown won’t get picked up at all. Each team is limited to 12 roster spots, and acquiring Brown would necessitate letting go of another player. Still, if she finds her rhythm again, any of these teams could be a suitable match.
