Gold Sees Conflicting Analysis Near $4,100
Currently, Gold (XAU/USD) is hovering around $4,100, but analysts are divided on what this means for the market. One view suggests that the recent bounce from a support level indicates a possible rise to $4,227, while another perspective warns that any surge is at risk, especially since the price remains below its 20-day EMA. A third analyst highlights the significance of India’s Diwali season, which could pose a real test for demand in the market.
Independent Analyst Mohamad Gharib: The Arc that Refused to Break
Mohamad Gharib is optimistic about Gold, interpreting the situation through Arc Cycle Analysis on the four-hour chart. He notes, “The rebound confirms a bullish reaction and opens the potential for continued movement higher, toward $4,227,” particularly after the price didn’t drop below the 1 (100%) Support Arc of the current cycle. However, he makes it clear that, “a sustained 4h close below 4,105 would invalidate the bullish scenario and could reopen the path toward the next Support Arc.” Gharib’s critical price point is being tested, as other analysts have cited a dip to $4,095.
FXStreet’s Sagar Dua: Oil, Inflation Fears, and a Fed Holding the Line
On the other hand, Sagar Dua takes a bearish stance, reporting that “Gold is down 1% to near $4,095 in the Asian trading session on Thursday,” largely due to concerns that inflation might rise further against a backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. His reasoning connects policy to market behavior: increasing inflation generally nudges central banks towards tighter monetary policies, which, in turn, “bodes poorly for non-yielding assets like Gold.” Dua points out that the Federal Reserve is expected to maintain its rates between 3.75% and 4.00% in the upcoming meeting, emphasizing that the guidance provided may serve as a significant trigger. Technically, XAU/USD remains under the 20-day EMA, which is around $4,172, with the RSI indicating negative territory. A daily close above the EMA is needed to alleviate the current downward trend.
Citadel Gold’s Shaun Bina: Diwali is the Tiebreaker
Shaun Bina offers insight into the physical aspect of the market, highlighting that India accounted for a notable percentage of global jewelry and bar and coin demand recently. He notes, “festival buying is a visible input to the physical market behind XAU/USD,” particularly with upcoming events like Dhanteras and Diwali. However, this year’s buying season opens amid some obstacles, including a significant import duty and a weaker rupee. Interestingly, the dynamics of demand have shifted from jewelry to bullion, with bar and coin purchases in the first half of the year reaching levels not seen in over a decade. Positive signs are emerging, as dealers shifted from discounts to premiums in mid-October, reflecting growing purchases as prices pulled back.
The Takeaway
The market stands on the edge of decision: Gharib’s optimistic Arc scenario hinges on a sustained four-hour close above $4,105, while Dua’s pessimistic view relies on the rejection of rallies at the $4,172 EMA. With current prices below both levels, Bina introduces the additional element of Indian festival demand, which has shown a positive premium for the first time in several months. It will be essential to watch the four-hour close at $4,105, followed by the Fed’s guidance next Wednesday, and finally the premium dynamics post-Diwali. The intersection of physical demand with the festival season could serve as a pivotal factor that technical indicators may not fully capture.
