Travis Kelce and TEU: A Glimpse into Tight End Training
When Travis Kelce witnessed the frantic play during the Chiefs’ game on Sunday, he might have had a few insights about where his fellow tight ends picked up their skills.
Theo Johnson, Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manharts, and rookie Thomas Fidone were all part of what is often referred to as “tight end college.”
“We were in the classroom, and let’s just say teaching might not be Kelce’s strong suit,” Bellinger joked after the game. “But, you know, it’s clear he has a unique ability to create separation on the field. I can let the pun slide, but he’s quick—super quick,” he added with a chuckle.
Interestingly, Taylor Swift was in attendance, supporting her now-fiancé during this training. She even performed her famous song, “Shake It Off.”
Fidone noted that his girlfriend was right next to Swift, waiting for an introduction that his boyfriend never got around to making while chatting with Kelce. “She might have been a bit nervous about talking to her,” Fidone commented.
Kelce didn’t hold back when expressing admiration for Bellinger, whom he referred to as a “great athlete.” He even pulled Fidone aside to tell him he had “juice.”
Bellinger reflected on this experience: “That kind of compliment early in my career really gave me confidence. It felt like, okay, I really can play at this level.” Meanwhile, Fidone, who was drafted seventh, is eagerly awaiting his NFL debut, having formed a strong friendship with George Kittle throughout their time together in college.
“The tight end position is quite strategic,” Fidone mentioned. “Not every win relies on raw talent; sometimes it’s all about technique and timing. That really embodies Travis’s style of play. There’s a strong sense of camaraderie within our group, and we often share little tips to help each other improve.”
For LB Swayze Bozeman, this season has been a whirlwind. After a stint with the Chiefs where he earned an AFC Championship ring, he recently debuted with the Giants. Meeting his former teammate, Patrick Mahomes, on the field brought home memories of his rookie season.
“It’s surreal watching these guys I practiced with last year,” Bozeman said after the game. “While I recognize Travis’s routes, that doesn’t mean they’re easy to defend.”
In terms of injuries, LB Darius Muasau has been reported as concussed, while LB Demetrius Flanigan-Fowles and DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches are both listed as questionable due to calf and foot issues respectively. Edge rusher Chauncey Golston (ankle) and WR/returner Gunner Olszewski are also under observation, alongside OT Andrew Thomas (foot).
After being cut by the Jets following a notable kickoff return in the first week, Xavier Gipson had a chance to shine in his Giants debut, stepping up as a significant returner in place of Olszewski.
