Here are three takeaways from the Jets’ 15-12 preseason win over the Panthers.
1. The Jets have depth in their front seven.
The defensive line played well despite being without starters.
Will McDonald sacked Panthers quarterback Jack Plummer, and other players made good penetrations against the Carolina line.
2. Olu Fashanu started at right tackle and played the full first half.
The first-round draft pick played left tackle last week.
The Jets are looking to have him ready to be the primary backup at both positions.
Fashanu was penalized for holding and struggled on running plays, but held up well in pass blocking.
2. The Jets had some great special teams play.
Brandon Codrington had a 63-yard kickoff return early in the second half.
Codrington then completed a 31-yard punt return, and while it was thought that making the Jets roster was unlikely, he contributed to the team’s success with the return.
Backup kicker Austin Seibert made four field goals, including one from 52 yards out.
The Jets have Greg Zuerlein on their roster, so Seibert likely won’t play for the Jets, but he could be acquired by another team.
