Three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw agrees to return to Dodgers: reports

Clayton Kershaw is widely considered one of the greatest Major League Baseball players of this era.

However, after 16 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, there has been some debate over whether Kershaw will pitch outside of Los Angeles in 2024, or whether the 10-time All-Star will step away from the game entirely. Ta.

On Tuesday, Mr Kershaw appeared to allay some concerns surrounding his immediate plans. The 35-year-old left-hander has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Dodgers, MLB Network Insider Joel Sherman and others reported. The New York Post first reported the deal.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The southpaw is scheduled to undergo a medical exam at the team’s spring training facility in Arizona later this week.

However, Kershaw continues to recover from offseason shoulder surgery and is not expected to be ready to pitch when the regular season begins in April.

The Dodgers strengthened their pitching rotation this season with the additions of Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Walker Buehler will likely pitch at some point in the season once he fully recovers from his second Tommy John surgery.

Los Angeles also acquired superstar pitcher and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, making perhaps the biggest splash of the offseason. However, the two-way star underwent elbow surgery and will be away from the pitching mound in 2024.

Kershaw, the 2014 National League MVP, has overcome numerous injuries throughout his prolific career. However, Kershaw’s velocity has declined in recent years due to injuries. Despite this, the star pitcher remained a highly effective pitcher once on the mound.

Kershaw made one postseason appearance with the Dodgers in 2023, but struggled. He gave up six runs and only one out in the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kershaw started 32 postseason games and posted a 13-13 record. He currently has 2,944 strikeouts, so he will likely surpass the 3,000 career strikeout mark at some point in the 2024 season.
