Three Women Charged in Daylight Murder of Texas Mother

In a shocking incident, three women have been charged with the murder of a mother of five in broad daylight on a street in South Texas. Disturbingly, one of the suspects seemed to smile in a video shortly after her arrest.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, Del Rio Police officers were dispatched to Valverde Regional Medical Center after receiving a report about a woman with multiple stab wounds.

“The severity of this crime is a stark reminder of the consequences of violent actions. Perhaps we need more compassion in our lives,” a local observer mentioned.

Upon arrival, officers learned the assault had taken place in the 800 block of East 10th Street. The victim was so severely injured that she was transported to a hospital in San Antonio for emergency care.

Through their investigation, authorities identified the victim as a 32-year-old woman named Caroline Peña and developed three suspects: Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, and Candra Renee Fuzz, also 21.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage, gathered evidence, and interviewed multiple witnesses. By around 4 p.m., police arrested Kitty Mia Diaz and Amaya Cookie Diaz without any incidents, followed shortly by the arrest of Candra Renee Fuzz. All three were taken to the Del Rio Police Department for booking.

Video footage of their arrest shows the two Díaz women appearing to grin as they were placed into a police vehicle. At least one of them could be seen smiling, which left many viewers unsettled.

Later that night, investigators confirmed the death of Caroline Peña. Following this tragic event, all three women were charged with murder and subsequently transported to the GEO Correctional Facility.

The investigation remains open, and authorities may file further charges as they continue to gather evidence and understand the full circumstances of this case.

Community reactions have been varied, with many expressing disbelief over the incident. Comments on the police department’s Facebook post reflected a mix of shock and sympathy.

  • One commenter shared, “The weight of this crime starkly illustrates the results of violent acts. We need to reflect on our actions.”
  • Another remarked, “It’s heartbreaking to see such violence affecting families. My thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones during this time.”
  • Someone else expressed, “I wish this hadn’t happened. The choices made impact not just those involved but their families too.”
  • Finally, a user simply stated, “Praying for the victim’s family.”
