Three-year-old girl dies when trampoline lifted by unexpected strong wind

Reports indicate that a 3-year-old lost her life after being hurled from a trampoline that was swept into the air by an unexpected gust of wind in a British backyard last month.

Felicity Kekin mentioned that during a hearing on Thursday, officials and witnesses described how a “mini tornado” lifted a netted trampoline over a hedge and into a nearby field at Longney’s home on May 10. The BBC provided the details.

“I was trimming a hedge when I heard a noise that was reminiscent of a freight train,” stated neighbor Adam Nash at the Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court.

The young child was airlifted to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children but tragically passed away a week later on May 17.

Neighbors reported witnessing a mini tornado crossing a road, approximately 70 meters wide, with visible marks left on the hedge.

Assistant Coroner Roland Wooderson ruled the death an accident and called the incident “the worst nightmare for all parents,” according to reports. He emphasized that Felicity was under her mother’s careful supervision, yet this was an extraordinary and heartbreaking accident. He noted that the 12-foot trampoline, which had been purchased just a week before the incident, had not been securely anchored.

“Out of the blue, a freak gust of wind lifted the trampoline high into the air and onto the hedges,” he explained, using the term “freak gust” carefully.

While Wooderson stated that securing the trampoline might not have changed the outcome, he cautioned users to heed the manufacturer’s instructions when purchasing such equipment. “The public really needs to be aware of the dangers associated with these trampolines,” he remarked.

The child, who had a brother named Jack, was remembered by her grieving family as a cherished daughter, sister, and granddaughter. Her obituary reflected the warmth of her character.

A funeral service for the young girl took place on Thursday morning, where attendees were encouraged to wear pink in her honor.
