Thunder find a way to recover from Game 1 collapse against Pacers

Thunder Remains Calm After Game 1 Loss in NBA Finals

Despite a heart-wrenching loss in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at home, the Thunder are not in a rush to panic. Oklahoma City managed to gain only 15 points in the fourth quarter, leading to a narrow 111-110 defeat against the Pacers, who now hold a 1-0 series lead after Tyle Seha Riverton’s clutch 21-foot jumper sealed the win.

“The way you lose doesn’t matter as much as you might think,” commented OKC’s star guard, referring to the game’s dramatic finish. “It’s tough to lose like that—especially with the energy in the arena at that moment—but in the end, we lost Game 1.” He went on to emphasize that they had lost in similar situations before, but their focus remains on improving and competing better. “We know we can be a better team. That’s what we’re aiming for.”

Previously, Oklahoma City suffered a nerve-wracking Game 1 in its playoff series against the Nuggets, where they were up by 13 points but fell to a last-minute three-pointer from Aaron Gordon, losing 121-119 at the Paycom Center.

Yet, the Nuggets’ victory didn’t stay in their favor for long; they were then dominated by the Thunder in the next game, with Oklahoma City winning 149-106 and ultimately taking the series in seven games.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, who led the team to an impressive 68-14 regular season record, highlighted the importance of maintaining focus during the playoffs. “The most crucial game in the series is always the next one,” he said. “The playoffs test your limits. If you’ve made it this far, you need to be ready to endure. Each game presents a new challenge.”

The Pacers, on the other hand, showcased their resilience with a comeback victory recently. Halliburton had to dig deep to secure a 138-135 win in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

As the series progresses, Game 2 is set to take place at 8 PM on Sunday, with Games 3 and 4 shifting to Indiana on June 11th.
