Jack Johnson Announces Return to Touring

No more “sit, wait, and hope.” Jack Johnson is getting back on the road after his brief hiatus since the 2022-23 Meet the Moonlight Tour, with just a few isolated performances in between.

The two-time Grammy nominee will embark on his “Surfilm Music Tour” for 43 concerts from June to October, hitting various venues across North America, such as theaters and parks. Noteworthy guests like Hermanos Gutierrez, Lake Street Dive, and G. Love will join him on select dates.

For fans in the New York and New Jersey areas, Johnson will perform four shows: starting at the PNC Bank Art Center in Holmdel, New Jersey on June 21, followed by stops at the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center on June 24, Jones Beach Theater on June 28, and CMAC in Canandaigua on July 1.

This tour coincides with the release of his upcoming documentary, SURFILMUSIC, which explores his journey from surfer to filmmaker to musician, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses from his surf films.

Alongside the tour announcement, Johnson released a new single titled “Hold on to the Light,” which is expected to be part of the SURFILMUSIC soundtrack.

While specifics about set lists for future shows are still a bit fuzzy, during the last tour, Johnson often played between 17 to 25 tracks per concert. Some popular songs included “Better Together,” “Upside Down,” and “Banana Pancakes.”

A review noted, “If playing guitar and singing became an Olympic sport, Jack Johnson would be the gold medalist.” So, it seems expected that this tour will be memorable.

Fans can look for tickets to all upcoming shows. The tour officially launches on November 14.

New Song Release

On November 7, Jack Johnson debuted the single “Hold on to the Light,” featuring Hermanos Gutierrez.

The track offers a bit of a refreshing twist, with sound slightly leaning towards a psychedelic vibe, different from Johnson’s usual calming guitar rhythms. However, his laid-back vocals deliver a haunting chorus beautifully. It’s the kind of song that might just become a favorite for cozy bonfire evenings.

Special Guests

For each performance, Johnson has invited opening acts. Here are some of their most popular songs on streaming platforms:

  • Hermanos Gutierrez: “Cherka de Ti”
  • Lake Street Dive: “Better”
  • G. Love: “Sunday Vibe”
