Tickets for the Golden Globes available for $70K a pair

If you’re an up-and-coming star or a Hollywood bigwig, sharing prime seats at the Golden Globes might mean a millionaire’s check helped you get there.

For a hefty $70,000, you can grab tickets to the Golden Globe Awards—a move some in Hollywood are derisively calling “shameless.” This package, offered through Penske Media (which owns both the awards and a luxury magazine promoting the tickets), includes red carpet access, an after-party invitation, a stylist, a stay at the Peninsula Beverly Hills, and even a fancy swag bag.

The tickets are being sold through The Vault’s Ultimate Gift Guide, which also showcases other lavish items, such as a $4.5 million powerboat and a $110,000 Cartier watch. The auction-like atmosphere has attracted attention, leading one veteran in the entertainment industry to remark, “This is shameless…$70,000 for a pair of tickets, and it includes a tuxedo!”

Officially, the Golden Globes haven’t allowed public ticket sales for some time, as outlined on their FAQ page. They clarify that the audience will consist of nominees, studio partners, and other select guests, further emphasizing exclusivity.

Though the public can browse The Vault site, it’s more of a wish list experience. Interested buyers fill out a form to be contacted by a concierge to facilitate a purchase.

Prospective buyers might be drawn to the luxury experience, which kicks off with an exclusive Golden Eve Party for industry insiders, leading into the main awards event on January 11th. Afterward, there’s a star-studded after-party, along with access to an elite gift bag containing high-end goodies typically reserved for winners or presenters.

This luxurious package not only guarantees a prime spot at the ceremony but also provides professional styling by Tom Sweeney, ensuring you look sharp on the red carpet. Despite the allure, as of Sunday night, none of the tickets had sold, reflecting perhaps a hesitance to engage with such an extravagant offer.

The recent changes in the organization of the awards could be traced back to when Penske Media took over from the nonprofit Hollywood Foreign Press Association, steering the event into for-profit territory. Last year, the award’s official gift bag alone was valued at around $1 million.

Penske Media holds a strong presence in the entertainment industry, owning numerous publications such as Variety and Rolling Stone. There has been controversy surrounding the awards, particularly after the announcement of a new Best Podcast category, which some claim is just another way to funnel profits back into Penske’s own marketing efforts.

In a landscape filled with both excitement and skepticism, it’s clear that the Golden Globes are navigating a transformed, commercialized path that leaves some insiders questioning the integrity of the awards.
