Tiffany Henyard achieves legal victory over former landlord

Another Win for the “Super Mayor”

It seems the journey for Tiffany Henyard, the former mayor of Dalton, Illinois, is far from over. This week, she secured a legal victory after a successful run in last month’s elections, marking a notable comeback—now as a Republican.

Henyard, currently campaigning in Georgia, returned to her old culinary territory last Monday. Here, a Cook County judge ruled that she would have to pay $1,500 to her former landlord.

The judge dismissed the landlord’s claim that Henyard owed nearly $10,000 in unpaid rent and other fees from her time in Dalton, instead ordering her boyfriend, Kamal Woods, to pay over $7,000 to the landlord Pony. This unfolded after property owner Jenetta Hull issued an eviction notice in 2024, targeting both Henyard and Woods.

Judge George Kanellis determined that Henyard hadn’t signed a lease for the house from 2012 to 2023, thus shielding her from significant financial burdens, as noted by a local publication. Ironically, while Henyard faced one judgment, Woods was awarded $7,060 for late rent and repair expenses.

In a separate ruling, the judge mandated Henyard to compensate for allegedly disclosing another official’s Social Security number, which the judge described as a serious violation of privacy due to her public profile.

In total, $1,000 of her payment will be designated for identity theft prevention services, while the other $500 will cover legal fees.

Henyard’s time in the Chicago suburb has been riddled with odd controversies, with some residents going so far as to label her the worst mayor in the country. After losing her reelection bid, she moved to Fulton County, switched parties, and pursued a commissioner position.

Despite running unopposed in the Republican primary, she celebrated her warm reception as she emerged victorious last month.
