Two-time player champion Tiger Woods has decided not to play at TPC Sawgrass next week.
Given his comments from last Tuesday night after the final TGL match of the season, the decision to do so is no real surprise.
“Not,” Woods said when asked in April if he entertained the idea of getting a start in Florida before the Masters.
“This was the third time I've touched the club since my mother passed away, so I'm not really in it. My mind is not interested in practice right now. I have so many things that have something to do with the tour and I'm trying to do other things. Maybe I'm starting to feel a little better and once I start to get into it, I'll start looking at the schedule.”
Woods' mother Kurchida passed on February 4th after seeing her son take part in his second TGL match. This is the only match Woods and his Jupiter Link team have won during their first season.
Woods is also involved in continuing negotiations for the PGA Tour with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), a beneficiary of LIV Golf. He met with President Donald Trump twice to discuss the deal.
Two weeks after his mother passed away on February 18th, Woods returned to the competition and spoke about how difficult it would be to play. He then decided to hand over the match for next week.
“I had a hard time driving here,” Woods said after the February 18 defeat.
“I really struggled to come here and relive every moment we had, my mother, how excited she was to get her to drive here. So those are great moments and great memories. It was a difficult process.”
Woods could make his season debut with Augusta National, which won five green jackets.
Full field for the 2025 Championshipfeatures a $25 million wallet. This year's event will feature 48 of the top 50 players in the official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). Only Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton from Liv Golf are outliers for these 50 players.
The Player Championship is the first of five events of the season, with 750 FedeX Cup points offering points to winners.
