Tiger Woods note question leads to awkward end to Neal Shipley press conference

Neil Shipley’s dream Masters week ended in a strange way.

Shipley was the only amateur to reach the finals this weekend at Augusta, playing the final round against Tiger Woods on Sunday.

Shipley spoke passionately about Woods and his experience playing with him, but had an odd reaction to one question about the five-time Masters champion.

Shipley, who played college golf at James Madison University and is now a graduate student at Ohio State University, was asked about the note Woods allegedly gave him on the eighth hole.

Mr. Shipley quickly turned to look at the Masters officials holding the press conference and said, “No, he didn’t.”

But reporters claimed to have seen Woods write something down and give it to Shipley.

“No, that didn’t happen,” Shipley, 23, said.

The press conference ended abruptly.

As a low amateur, Shipley had his moment at Butler Cabin with future Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.

Shipley shot a 71 in the first round to qualify, and on Friday he shot a 76 in windy conditions.

Shipley struggled with 80 points on Saturday, but ended his memorable week with 73 points.

“I played Tiger at the Masters on Sunday and I think we need to win one of these this week to come out on top,” said Shipley, who entered the tournament as runner-up at the U.S. tournament. Last year I was an amateur.

“It’s definitely been a dream week and I’m looking forward to getting out here.” [as a pro] Preferably soon. ”

Woods made a record 24 consecutive cuts at the Masters and entered the weekend in good position at 1 over.

However, he had a terrible weekend, finishing last among the participants with just 82 and 77 shots.

“Overall it was a good week,” Woods said. “I haven’t played a full tournament in a long time since I came here, but Thursday and Friday were good fights. Unfortunately, [Saturday] It didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. ”
