Tiger Woods ought to stop playing golf following his DUI accident, says Brandel Chamblee

Brandel Chamblee Suggests Tiger Woods Should Consider Retirement

Brandel Chamblee, a Golf Channel analyst and former PGA Tour player, believes it may be time for Tiger Woods to step away from golf for good.

The 50-year-old Woods was arrested on a DUI charge after flipping his Land Rover near his residence in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday. This incident occurs almost nine years after his first DUI arrest. Chamblee expressed his thoughts on “Golf Central,” suggesting that Woods might want to reflect on the necessity of continuing to play golf.

“Why does he need to play golf anymore? I think he should probably ask himself that. Let’s consider not playing golf anymore,” Chamblee shared.

Woods was released from jail shortly after his arrest. According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the renowned golfer is suspected to have been under the influence of “some kind of drug or narcotic,” and exhibited “lethargic” behavior with signs of impairment.

Chamblee indicated that there’s “no benefit” for Woods to compete on the Champions Tour, which is designed for golfers over 50, and further stated that Woods “can no longer play at a competitive level” on the PGA Tour.

“Tiger Woods obviously has a history of pushing himself beyond his physical limits. He doesn’t need much sleep; his body repairs itself when he sleeps. He wakes up early and works out, putting a lot of stress on an already fragile body,” Chamblee commented.

He remarked on Woods’ history of injuries and surgeries, noting how these have often involved prescribed painkillers. While he emphasizes his observations, he clarified he wasn’t speculating about what substances might have been in Woods’ system.

Woods has undergone multiple back surgeries, with his latest being a disc replacement amid recovery from a torn Achilles tendon. He also suffered a leg injury in a car crash in California in 2021, when he was allegedly speeding over 130 mph.

Interestingly, he had just returned to action for the indoor TGL league on Tuesday, three days prior to his arrest, and had previously hinted at the possibility of competing in next month’s Masters.
