Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have exchanged pleasantries but aren’t expected to dine together anytime soon.
The pair were seen walking side by side at Royal Troon ahead of the British Open and Mickelson, who has moved to rival LIV Golf, told reporters on Saturday that he said “hi” to Woods while they were on the driving range.
But the conversation didn’t last long.
“I said hi,” Mickelson said. From the Golf Channel. “Yeah, we said hi, but we were both getting ready. We weren’t going to sit there and chat. But we said hi.”
The two golf rivals have never had a close relationship and have been enemies in the long-running battle between LIV and the PGA.
Woods, who missed the cut after a dismal 14-over performance in the opening two rounds, is a member of the PGA Tour’s policy committee, Mickelson has long been one of the rebel golf league’s main recruiters and LIV has brought in many of the biggest names from the tour.
Mickelson, who finished tied for 60th at 11 under par, said in a media chat that he didn’t have much of an opinion on the attempted merger between LIV and the PGA Tour.
Talks between the two leagues have been ongoing for some time, but details about the progress of negotiations are limited.

“I don’t know about that,” Mickelson said. “I’m not involved, I’m not sitting in that room. I’m enjoying where I am, what I’m doing, playing. I’ll let other people think about that.”
The British Open concluded on Sunday with Xander Schauffele claiming his second major title, following his PGA Championship victory earlier this year.
Schauffele’s victory gave the United States its first Grand Slam title since 1982. According to the Associated Press.
“It took a long time to win one, but to win two is something special,” Schauffele told reporters.
