Tiger Woods receives court permission to travel internationally for treatment following DUI arrest

Tiger Woods Granted Permission for Medical Treatment Abroad

Tiger Woods has received approval to travel outside the United States for medical treatment following his recent arrest for drunk driving in Jupiter Island, Florida. His attorney, Douglas N. Duncan, filed the necessary motion, which Judge Darren Steele approved.

Court documents reveal that Woods’ physician recommended treatment abroad due to his “complex clinical condition.” The physician emphasized that the level of care required isn’t feasible in the U.S. because of repeated breaches of Woods’ privacy. The documents also noted that ongoing medical evaluations and the public’s gaze could hinder his treatment progress.

While specific details about the treatment location remain unclear, it was stated that the facility would provide constant monitoring and the ability to swiftly adjust treatments in a controlled environment.

After his arrest related to a rollover accident, Woods announced he would withdraw from golf temporarily to focus on his health. He stated, “I recognize the seriousness of my situation,” and expressed a commitment to prioritizing his recovery. “This time is necessary for my health and to work towards a lasting recovery,” he mentioned.

Woods pleaded not guilty, waived his right to an arraignment, and has requested a jury trial. His arrest was due to DUI charges and refusing a blood alcohol test, following a collision that left his car overturned.

According to the arrest affidavit, Woods was observed sweating heavily, and two white pills found in his pocket were identified as hydrocodone, a pain-relieving opioid. After being processed at the Martin County Jail, Woods took a breathalyzer test, yielding a 0.00 result for both samples but refused a urine test, which led to additional charges.

This isn’t Woods’ first DUI incident; he was also arrested for a similar offense in 2017 after being found asleep at the wheel. He had recently returned to golf after undergoing back surgery and treatment for a torn Achilles tendon.

While there had been speculation about Woods participating in the upcoming Masters Tournament, Augusta National president Fred Ridley confirmed that he will not compete in the major event. However, Woods’ teammate Kevin Kisner mentioned that Woods intends to enter the U.S. Senior Open, scheduled for early July.
