Earlier on Tuesday, many golf fans had fun online trying to predict which song Tiger Woods would sing in his TGL debut.
But there was only one logical choice for the 15-time major champion. Survivor's “Eye of the Tiger”.
The Chicago-based band wrote this 1982 hit as the film's theme song. Rocky III. In the film, Rocky, played by Sylvester Stallone, faced off against Clubber Lang, played by Mr. T. Rocky, an underdog hero who became an icon in American cinema, in a boxing match, defeating Lang in three rounds.
Woods felt like he was in a boxing ring, too, given the smoke machines blowing through the entrance tunnel and strobe lights flashing everywhere. It didn't really feel like a golf match yet, but Woods' entrance was electric. Nevertheless.
However, his son Charlie disagreed with that assessment.
The 15-year-old, who made headlines last month for his hole-in-one at the PNC Championship, told ESPN's Marty Smith that his father's walkout was “awkward.” If Charlie were to give it a score out of 10, he would give it a 4, a low score for what many golf fans thought was an incredible entry point.
The Jupiter Links Golf Team, led by Woods, struggled in its debut, falling behind 5-0 after just five holes. After that, they easily lost to Los Angeles Golf Club. Given the taint, Charlie probably would have given his father a much worse grade at SoFi Center than he gave him for admission.
