Tim Allen Offers Forgiveness Inspired by Erika Kirk
Actor Tim Allen has publicly forgiven the man who killed his father, citing the experience of Erika Kirk, who recently expressed forgiveness for her husband’s killer.
In a social media post on Thursday, Allen reflected on Erika Kirk’s words: “When Erica Kirk spoke about the man who killed her husband: ‘That guy… that young man… I’ll forgive him.’ That moment had a deep impact on me. Stay with you guys,” he wrote.
Tim’s father, Gerald M. Dick, lost his life in a tragic car accident involving a drunk driver back in November 1964 when Allen was just 11 years old.
During a memorial for murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk, his widow, Erika, emphasized her Christian faith when discussing her husband’s murderer. She mentioned her husband’s passion for helping young men who felt lost or without purpose.
“Charlie wanted to reach out to those young men consumed by anger and distraction,” she said. “He wanted to save a young man just like the one who took his life. Our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them; they don’t know what they’re doing.’ The young man forgave him.”
Erika’s testimony underlined the importance of forgiveness, even amidst such tragedy. She noted that while one can forgive, it doesn’t mean forgetting the pain of loss. “Erica has no way of forgetting that her husband was killed in cold blood. Forgiveness is something you will never forget,” she stated.
Moreover, she highlighted that while forgiveness is crucial, justice must also be served for the community’s wellbeing. “We will not refrain from or allow justice. Criminal justice is necessary for the happiness of our community,” she added, advocating for both accountability and healing.
