Tim Burton Remembers Catherine O’Hara in Heartfelt Tribute
Tim Burton has expressed his sorrow over the loss of Catherine O’Hara with a heartfelt eulogy. “Katherine, I love you,” he wrote on Instagram, reflecting on the impact she had on everyone around her. “This photo shows how much light you gave all of us.”
He added that she was a “special part” of both his life and the wider artistic community.
Burton shared a behind-the-scenes image from the Beetlejuice sequel, featuring himself alongside O’Hara, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Jenna Ortega. O’Hara had a notable role in the original 1988 film as well as its upcoming sequel set for 2024. Additionally, she contributed her voice to other Burton animated classics, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie.
A number of stars, including Macaulay Culkin and Michael Keaton, along with her co-stars from “Schitt’s Creek,” Eugene and Dan Levy, have paid their respects, mourning the loss of the Emmy-winning actress.
O’Hara passed away on January 30 after a brief illness, as reported by Creative Artists Agency. She was 71 at the time of her death.
According to a statement, O’Hara died at her home in Los Angeles. She had been suffering from a rare condition known as inverse situs, in which the internal organs are arranged in a mirror image of their normal anatomy.
In the hours preceding her passing, she was reported to be in “serious condition” and was taken to a hospital after paramedics were called to her Brentwood home early that morning.
While the official cause of her death has not yet been disclosed, audio from the 911 call indicated she was having “difficulty breathing.”
Her family plans to hold a “private celebration of life” in her honor, and she is survived by her husband, Beau Welch, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke.
