U.S. Men’s National Team Shows Promise Ahead of Upcoming Match

The U.S. men’s national soccer team appears to be finding its stride.

Former goaltender Tim Howard shared his thoughts with Outkick, highlighting how the team’s convincing win over Paraguay signals its potential as they prepare to face Australia.

The growing support from fans is evident. The match attracted an impressive audience of 24.9 million viewers, setting a new record for soccer viewership in the U.S.

Howard expressed a sense of optimism, noting that there seem to be more goals left in the tank for the Americans. “So many good things, so many contributions,” he remarked. “Winning a game and thinking, ‘Man, I wish we could have won even more,’ is a great place to be.”

He pointed out Folarin Balogun’s two goals, along with Christian Pulisic’s impactful performance and solid defense as key reasons for hope as the tournament continues. “There’s a lot of groundwork to build on,” he stated. “The substitutes came in and played well, and I thought our defense was solid.”

Looking ahead to the match against Australia, Howard anticipates a different dynamic. He warned that the physical style of play from the Australians could disrupt the U.S. team’s rhythm. “It’s going to be a physical game,” he explained. “They know that if they can upset our flow, it gives them a chance.”

Still, Howard has confidence in the American squad, believing they have the skill to outperform Australia, as long as they match their intensity. He even predicted that the U.S. could score multiple goals, possibly winning by a margin like 3-0 or 3-1.

Beyond the field, Howard emphasized the importance of fan support. He believes that as the U.S. gears up for the 2026 World Cup, building a strong soccer culture is essential. Partnerships, like the one with Jim Beam aimed at enhancing home field advantage, are a step in the right direction. “There’s a cultural and unifying aspect to soccer,” said Howard. “We need to foster excitement for this team and push them toward greatness both on and off the pitch.”

He wrapped up by highlighting how the atmosphere created by supporters can significantly impact a team’s momentum and success. “The fans have a critical role to play,” he noted. “They will fuel this momentum, and we must do our part as supporters.”
