Tim Scott shares remarkable survival story after car crash
Sen. Tim Scott recently discussed his family’s inspiring journey on Sean Hannity’s podcast. He reflected on how his grandfather was forced off sidewalks in 1921, leading to a future where his grandson would become a senator. Scott believes their transition from “cotton to Congress” exemplifies the lasting power of the American Dream.
During the podcast, Scott opened up about a car accident that interrupted his aspirations of playing football as a teenager. He recounted how, in a moment of desperation, he simply yelled, “Jesus,” calling for help, and felt a sense of divine protection amidst the chaos of the crash.
The senator explained this experience took place within the context of a conversation with Hannity at last week’s Republican National Committee Midterm Convention in Dallas. It was a pivotal moment well before his career in politics began.
Scott, a promising high school football player at the time, described how he had been advancing in the sport before fate took a different turn. He shared that he had been driving his mother to work one morning and eventually dozed off on his way back home.
Upon awakening to the sound of gravel beneath his tires, Scott recalled that he instinctively slammed on the brakes and veered the steering wheel. This maneuver caused the vehicle to spin across multiple lanes before crashing into the median, resulting in him being thrown through the windshield while still gripping the steering wheel.
The aftermath of the crash left Scott with a broken ankle and back injuries, which prompted the loss of many potential college athletics scholarships. However, Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, offered him a partial scholarship.
While studying there, Scott experienced a significant spiritual transformation, ultimately dedicating his life and heart to Jesus Christ during a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting.
