Tim Scott: ‘Trump did more for minorities than Biden will ever do’

Sen. Tim Scott (R.C.) hit back at critics of former President Trump's support Wednesday, arguing that the former president “did more for minorities” than President Biden.

Scott, the only black Republican in the Senate, asked Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham if he expected to face increased scrutiny from the left for his support for Trump, who has made controversial statements on racial issues. asked a question.

Scott told Ingraham that he didn't expect any criticism, but that “the left is going to lose its mind because Donald Trump has done more for minorities than Joe Biden.” I'm expecting it,” he said.

“Think about the fact that Donald Trump has poured more money into historically black colleges and universities.” [HBCU] More than any other president,” Scott continued.

During his time in the White House, President Trump asserted his unwavering support for historically black colleges and universities, which he once said had “no better champion in the White House.”

In 2019, Trump signed a bipartisan bill It is intended to permanently provide more than $250 million annually to the nation's HBCUs and several other educational institutions that serve a large proportion of minority students. At the time, the former president said his administration would “continue.”[d] To “fulfill” his promise to “fight for HBCUs.”

Trump himself has touted similar accomplishments, previously claiming that his administration has done more for the African-American community “than any president since Abraham Lincoln.”

Scott on Wednesday further touted President Trump's work on the economy, unemployment and sickle cell anemia, a blood disorder that disproportionately affects Black people.

“What do you think? Hell [Trump] Please help white people, black people, and brown people. I mean, he likes everybody,” Scott said.

The South Carolina Republican, who suspended his presidential bid in November, formally endorsed Trump last week. She appeared on stage with Trump on Tuesday night following the former president's victory over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary.

On stage, Trump told Scott about Haley: “You must really hate her.”

Scott laughed and said, “I just love you!”

The exchange angered Pastor Al Sharpton, who called Scott's comments about Trump “disgraceful.”

“It's not a good thing in my life to see Tim do something like that,” Sharpton said Wednesday on MSNBC's “Morning Joe.” “He has a right to be a Republican. He has a right to be Donald Trump. But to do it in such a humiliating way was problematic.”
