Tim Scott unveils bill targeting debanking

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (Rs.C.) announced the legislation on Thursday with the aim of leaving the group.

Closing accounts that banks often find little risk or explanation – has become an important issue for Republicans, especially as they argue that the cryptocurrency industry is unfairly targeted.

Scott's Financial Integrity and Regulatory Control Act seeks to remove references to reputational risk as a measure to determine the safety and soundness of depository institutions such as banks.

“It is clear that federal regulators have abused reputational risks by implementing political agendas against federal legal businesses,” Scott said in a statement. “This law, which eliminates all mentions of reputational risk in regulatory oversight, is the first step to ending a complete decutting.”

The Act also prohibits federal agencies from creating new rules or guidance that exploit reputational risks. Scott has joined the bill on the Senate Banking Committee, including Sen. Cynthia Lumis (Waiori).

“Americans deserve a transparent regulatory framework that encourages innovation in digital assets, rather than suffocating it with government overreach,” said Ramis, who chairs the Senate bank subcommittee.

“We are notifying these fraudulent regulators. Their unchecked day of forces is over,” she added in a statement.

Republicans have long voiced concerns about the removal, returning to the Obama administration's “Operation Chalk Point.” The controversial Justice Department initiative, officially ended in 2017, discouraged banks from working with certain “high-risk” businesses.

Amid the rise in Crypto in recent years, several individuals and businesses associated with the industry say they have broken away.

Crypto has discovered an important alliance in the GOP, especially as President Trump accepts the industry. Trump also aims to break away in a more traditional sense, accusing the bank of refusing to work with conservatives in January.
