MSNBC host Al Sharpton said Wednesday on “Morning Joe” that Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) endorsed former President Donald Trump after the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night. He said he was humiliated.
“It was obviously not unexpected that Trump won by a double-digit margin,” Sharpton said. “I think Haley did a little better than some polls suggested, but the results didn't arrive. I think the fact that she vowed to continue with the election is, in many ways, the ultimate insult to Donald Trump, because Trump told everyone to just kneel down and bow to himself and say it's over. What he's really worried about are the four incidents he committed. His speech and his current tendency to ramble and go off the rails. I think I'm really starting to wonder if this isn't just some of us who disagree with him politically, if there's something really getting through to him. He just can't seem to be consistent for long periods of time. I think he'll be a candidate and I think he's demanding people bow down to him. There are few moments more embarrassing than seeing Tim Scott inside.”
He continued, “It was humbling to see what Tim Scott did as a sitting senator. At one point, it wasn't even in the script. He didn't want to pay tribute to President Trump.” I interrupted. I had to say that because it had been bothering me all night.”
Sharpton added, “It's not a good day in my life to see Tim like that. I mean, we fought to see black people like him elected to high office in the South.'' And to think that he fought to make that happen. He has a right to be a Republican, a right to act like Donald Trump, but to do it in such a humiliating way. That was a problem.”
