Tim Tebow Signs New Contract with ESPN Amid Layoffs
ESPN is experiencing significant staff changes, but Tim Tebow, a familiar face, will remain with the network. Tebow, who has been covering college football for ESPN since 2013, signed a new multi-year contract just before ESPN began a round of layoffs.
“I love this game and I get to discuss it every Saturday with the SEC Network staff. ESPN is a gift to me and I don’t take it lightly,” he mentioned in a statement. “SEC fans bring a passion that never gets old, and I’m grateful to continue this journey with people who feel like family.”
The former Florida Gator is primarily seen on SEC Nation, a Saturday morning show, and makes regular appearances on College Football Live and SportsCenter.
“Tim is one of the legendary players in college football history and will continue to be an integral part of our coverage on the SEC Network and across ESPN,” said Burke Magnus, ESPN’s President of Content. “His unparalleled experience in the SEC, along with his deep knowledge and real passion for the game, positions him as one of the most trusted voices in sports, especially among SEC Nation fans.”
Details about Tebow’s new contract remain undisclosed. Meanwhile, ESPN has laid off several staff members, including respected figures like Karl Labek, who dedicated 33 years to the network.
Other notable layoffs include NFL analysts Ryan Clark, Charles Davis, Cam Newton, Bart Scott, and Tom Pelissero, as well as reporters such as David Lloyd, Stefania Bell, Andreas Hale, and Dan Heiducky. The cutbacks in NFL commentary are partly due to a merger with the NFL Network, resulting in an excess of analysts and reporters.
Tebow’s time at ESPN follows a remarkable collegiate career that featured two national championships with Florida in 2006 and 2008, along with winning the Heisman Trophy in 2007. Though he achieved first-round draft status, his professional career was less stellar, with a notable playoff win as the quarterback for the Broncos in 2012.
