Tim Walz Bashes JD Vance for Going to Yale — After Following Long List of Yale Speakers

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz blasted his rival, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), for being a Yale University graduate after Walz took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, on Wednesday, following a long list of Yale and Ivy League alumni.

“I grew up in Butte, Nebraska, a town of 400 people,” Waltz said, “I had 24 kids in my high school class, and none of them went to Yale.”

Waltz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, frequently attacks Vance, the Republican nominee, as an elitist for attending Yale University despite growing up poor in rural America.

But Walz’s predecessors on the convention stage included a number of Yale and Ivy League graduates on Wednesday night alone.

  • Jaime Harrison, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (Yale University)
  • Virginia McGregor, Treasurer, Democratic National Committee (Harvard University)
  • Alexis McGill Johnson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood (Yale and Princeton Universities)
  • Cecil Richards, former president of Planned Parenthood (Brown)
  • Jared Polis, Governor of Colorado (Princeton)
  • Mindy Kaling, Actor (Dartmouth College)
  • Bill Clinton, former President (Yale University)
  • Amanda Gorman, Poet (Harvard University)
  • Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg
  • John Legend, musician (Pennsylvania)
  • Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota Senator (Yale University)

Waltz has been accused of falsifying parts of his history, including his military service, and a video shown at the convention repeatedly made misleading statements about his military rank, saying he retired as a sergeant major, a rank below master sergeant, because he did not meet the requirements for that rank.
