Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), who was reported Tuesday as the likely running mate to Vice President Kamala Harris, failed to predict and respond to the riots that erupted in Minneapolis after the 2020 death of George Floyd at the hands of police.
The violence led to the destruction of police stations, widespread looting and riots that spread across the country.
of Minneapolis Star Tribune report Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey criticized Walz for not responding.
Frey said in an interview Monday that Walz was hesitant to send in the National Guard to quell the escalating violence and then blamed the governor for allowing the city to burn.
…
Frey said he immediately called Governor Walz at 6:29 p.m. to provide him with the information and ask him to send in the National Guard. “We communicated the seriousness of the situation. The urgency was clear,” Frey said.
“He didn’t say yes,” Frey said of Waltz, “he just said he’d consider it.”
As the city burned, Major and the Governor traded accusations, while Governor Harris raised bail funds for people arrested by police in Minneapolis, falsely claiming they were peaceful protesters calling for racial justice.
