Tim Walz Lied About Military Career, Used Dishonesty for ‘Political Gain’

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Gov. Tim Walz lied about his military record for his own political gain.

“Governor Walz has been in office for 24 years, stayed on after 9/11 when he could have retired, and gone above and beyond what our country needed,” said anchor Dana Bash. “Do you salute the Governor for his work?”

Vance said, “Obviously, Dana, I respect his service and I have never criticized Tim Walz for his actions while he was in the military. I criticized his decision to retire and, most importantly, Dana, I criticized him for lying about his record.”

He added, “This guy was caught on video saying he carried a gun in a war. He never went to a war. As others have said, this guy was caught on video. He’s an Afghanistan veteran, a war veteran. Instead of saying, ‘No, no, no, I served my country. I served honorably, but I never went to war,’ he nods in agreement. I’m not criticizing Tim Walz for his service. I’m criticizing him for lying about his service for political gain. Dana, I was in the United States Marines. You know that. And there’s a lot of things I’m proud of. I’ve never lied or exaggerated anything I’ve done just because it would help me get elected. I think that’s what Tim Walz did. That’s what I was criticizing. I think it’s scandalous, for sure.”
