Tim Walz Lied About Retirement Rank to His Iraq-Bound Former Division

Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) falsely claimed to be a “retired master sergeant” in a 2009 video that he recorded for soldiers from his former unit who served in Iraq when he was a member of the House of Representatives.

of video The comments came to light after Kamala Harris’ campaign removed from vice presidential candidate Waltz’s official resume a statement that Waltz retired as a master sergeant in the National Guard amid the ongoing scandal.

As Breitbart’s Christina Wong reported, Waltz “was demoted to the rank of sergeant major after failing to meet the requirements to be discharged as a master sergeant. Despite this, he has repeatedly bragged about being discharged as a master sergeant.”

Waltz recorded a message for the unit he served in before retiring.

“As a 24-year veteran of the National Guard and the Red Bull Division,” Waltz said in the 15-year-old video, “and a retired master sergeant, I’m especially proud of you.”

Walz’s false allegations against soldiers in his own unit, and the brief pause he took before making them, have particular resonance in a rapidly escalating scandal for the Democratic Party.

In addition to the media barrage, Harris’ fellow candidates have faced harsh criticism this week from many of the people they have worked with — and not just for name-calling.

As Wong reports, “Veterans who served with Waltz accuse him of abandoning them as they prepared to deploy to Iraq at the peak of the war, even though he was the unit’s top non-commissioned officer.” Additionally, Waltz has repeatedly suggested he brought weapons to the war. video The Harris campaign shares this view, despite never having been in combat.
