Tim Walz Stays in Office Despite Significant Criticism Over Somali Scandal

Walz Stands Firm Amid Calls for Resignation

Democratic Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota has made it clear that he will not resign despite growing pressure from state lawmakers regarding his response to the Somalia fraud scandal.

All Republican state legislators in Minnesota have demanded Walz’s immediate resignation due to a scandal involving the alleged theft of over $9 billion from federal social welfare programs by a group of Somalis. Walz, speaking to reporters, asserted, “For these reasons, I am resigning,” and cited accusations against the legislators for taking direction from former President Donald Trump.

“That’s not happening. It’s not going anywhere,” Walz insisted. “You can make all the demands you want for me to resign, but over my dead body. I will fight this issue to the end for the betterment of this state. They need to consider when the man in the White House is going to take responsibility for what he’s done, because that’s not going to happen here.”

Recently, Walz withdrew his re-election bid for the 2026 gubernatorial race amid national criticism regarding how he has managed the fraud situation. State officials accused him of ignoring whistleblowers and attempting to discredit reports of fraud.

Numerous defendants are alleged to have stolen over $350 million from a nonprofit called Feeding Our Future, which was created to provide meals for low-income children during the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, 57 defendants have been indicted in connection with this scheme.

A recent documentary by YouTuber Nick Shirley highlighted that ten childcare centers run by Somalis appeared to be inactive, yet they were receiving taxpayer funding. Five of those centers were identified as meal providers under the Feeding Our Future initiative, having received nearly $5 million between 2018 and 2021. Interestingly, the phone number for one of those centers was the same as Walz’s office.

In a press conference on December 12, Walz commented on accountability related to crimes, suggesting that white individuals should also be held responsible for their actions. “You see, they are not law-abiding citizens. If that were the case, many white men would be held accountable for the crimes they committed,” Walz remarked in response to questioning about Somali responsibility.

On December 2, Walz accused Trump of conducting a “PR stunt,” implying that the former president was indiscriminately targeting immigrant communities when Immigration and Customs Enforcement stepped up deportation efforts in areas with large Somali populations.
