Waltz Clarifies Presidential Intentions
During a podcast interview released on Thursday, Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz, a Democrat, confirmed that he has no intentions of running for the White House in 2028.
On his show, “Our Table with Jaime Harrison,” he mentioned that the thought of a presidential run hasn’t crossed his mind. He expressed a strong commitment to support and build up the Democratic party for the upcoming elections, stating he’s focused on ensuring a successful candidate emerges in 2028.
Waltz reiterated these sentiments in a separate interview with a South Dakota outlet, asserting his willingness to help elect the Democratic nominee but emphasizing that he isn’t interested in pursuing a presidential campaign himself. This reassurance comes amid speculation about his potential candidacy in the future.
“I’ll do whatever it takes to choose someone,” he said, adding that he firmly believes he won’t change his mind about running for president.
In another context, Waltz is also considering whether to seek re-election as governor in 2026, as mentioned in an interview from Wednesday. His discussions about electoral strategies seem quite candid, reflecting a realistic view of the Democratic landscape.
Currently, the political scene is rather fluid. Former Vice President Kamala Harris has mentioned Waltz as a possible running mate for her 2024 campaign, although the future of such plans is uncertain, especially after recent electoral shifts. Harris is also weighing a potential gubernatorial bid in California for 2026 or possibly entering the 2028 race herself.
Earlier this year, Waltz expressed concerns over the Democratic party’s prospects for regaining control in the Senate during the upcoming midterm elections.
Interestingly, the debut episode of a podcast featuring Waltz as a guest has not garnered significant views on YouTube, suggesting that his presence in media may not yet translate to widespread recognition or support.
Waltz’s office has yet to comment further on these discussions surrounding his political future.
