CNN commentator Scott Jennings on Tuesday called Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Vice President Kamala Harris' “emotional support animal” after the network announced that the governor would accompany her to her first interview as a presidential candidate.
Jennings mocked CNN political reporter Dana Bash for seeming unsure about going it alone after Harris avoided the media for more than five weeks after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
Jennings had the following exchange on air: segment With CNN anchor Anderson Cooper:
COOPER: …Scott, this is the first time we've had a vice president do an interview. She's doing it with her running mate, Tim Walz. Do you think that's going to blunt the attacks from Republicans, or is it going to be like, why not just go it alone?
SCOTT JENNINGS, CNN Political Commentator: Yeah, I think people are definitely going to bring that up.
Look, I have a lot of faith in Dana and CNN to do this, and I think it's incredibly weak to show up with a running mate, that they don't have enough faith in her to actually sit at the top of the list and only get one interview.
In fact, I think the agonizing and vacillating over this over the past month demonstrates a disturbing lack of confidence in her political competence, and it makes me wonder, as a voter, what kind of president you would be, what your decision-making process is, etc., if it matters whether you can be interviewed about such a minor decision.
So I think Republicans are going to think that showing up with someone who is going to be there effectively half the time is pretty weak.
Jennings later took to social media to mock Walz during the CNN interview, calling him Harris' “emotional support animal.”

Jennings made similar comments on another show.
Harris has yet to hold a press conference. Former President Donald Trump holds frequent press conferences but often faces hostile questions from biased media.
