Timothy Busfield Pleads Not Guilty to Child Sexual Abuse Charges
Timothy Busfield has entered a not guilty plea in response to multiple charges of child sexual abuse. This occurred on February 11, as per New Mexico court records. On that day, he also waived his right to arraignment and other pretrial procedures.
The prosecution submitted its witness list on February 13, and a scheduling conference is set for March 10.
Busfield, 68, known for his role in “Thirty Something,” was arrested and held without bail on two counts of sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse.
Indictment Details
The grand jury indictment, which was revealed earlier in the month, includes four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child. Busfield’s attorney, Larry Stein, stated after the indictment that the case against his client is not likely to be proven in court.
Stein commented, “This indictment was anticipated. As the saying goes, grand juries indict ham sandwiches.” He expressed concern that the district attorney is moving forward with a case that he believes lacks solid evidence. “The detention hearing revealed serious weaknesses in the state’s evidence that no amount of prosecutorial decisions can rectify,” he said.
Additionally, he noted, “This prosecution seems to stem from motives outside of the facts and law. Mr. Busfield plans to contest these charges vigorously and looks forward to evaluating the evidence in a public forum rather than in private.”
Details of the Allegations
Last month, a warrant was issued for Busfield’s arrest linked to allegations of misconduct while directing a television series called “Cleaning Woman.” He was released on January 20 with the stipulation that he attends all future court dates. The judge specifically mentioned that he is not to break any laws.
Busfield has also been instructed to avoid any discussions about the case with witnesses and to refrain from contact with individuals under 18 years of age.
According to arrest warrants reviewed by Fox News Digital, two 11-year-old twins have claimed they were inappropriately touched on the set of “Cleaning Women” by a director who asked them to call him “Uncle Tim.”
Investigation Insights
The police investigation into Busfield commenced on November 1, 2024, after a doctor from the University of New Mexico Hospital reported potential sexual abuse. Initially, he faced charges related to two counts of sexual contact with a minor (under 13) and one count of child abuse.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney, Sam Bregman, indicated that New Mexico law could impose up to six years in prison for each act of criminal sexual contact and up to three years for the child abuse charge.
