Timothy Busfield will appear in court over child sexual abuse allegations in New Mexico.

Timothy Busfield Turns Himself In on Child Molestation Charges

Timothy Busfield, the 68-year-old actor known for his roles in “The West Wing” and “Thirty Something,” has surrendered to authorities in New Mexico following the issuance of an arrest warrant related to child molestation charges. As of now, he is being held without bail and is set to face a judge on two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse.

When he presented himself to the authorities, Busfield denied the charges, stating that he is “determined to clear his name,” as relayed by his attorney. His defense team has indicated that they will likely request his release, emphasizing that he poses no flight risk. However, the prosecution might counter this claim, pointing out the time it took for him to turn himself in.

John W. Day, a New Mexico criminal defense attorney, mentioned that the outcome largely depends on the judge’s assessment. He also commented on varying possible outcomes, such as surrendering his passport or being released on his own recognizance with conditions.

Busfield’s attorney emphasized that he voluntarily sought to confront these “false and deeply troubling allegations.” The attorney also claimed that the accusations have been influenced by the child’s mother, who allegedly threatened revenge against Busfield after her son was removed from a television show.

The charges stem from incidents that allegedly took place when the child was seven years old, during the filming of a television series on which Busfield served as both director and actor. Reportedly, the child stated that he touched her inappropriately multiple times, continuing when she was eight years old.

An investigation into the allegations was initiated after a medical professional raised concerns about possible sexual abuse. Interestingly, an independent inquiry conducted by Warner Bros.—known for its thoroughness—found no supporting evidence for inappropriate behavior by Busfield.

Statements from Warner Bros. highlight their commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all cast and crew members, particularly minors. Meanwhile, Busfield’s wife, Melissa Gilbert, who also has a notable acting career, has reportedly deleted her Instagram account since the warrant was issued. According to her representative, she continues to support her husband and plans to address the public whenever deemed appropriate.

As this situation develops, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold and what impact they might have on the individuals involved.
