Tippi Hedren’s Rare Public Appearance
Tippi Hedren was recently seen outside her daughter Melanie Griffith’s home, which is a pretty rare moment for the iconic Hollywood star.
She attended Griffith’s 96th birthday celebration in Los Angeles and was captured in photos as she was assisted up the steps outside the house.
Initially, Hedren wore a floral blazer over a purple top, but later changed into a patterned sweater on her way back. A man, thought to be her grandson Alexander Bauer, was seen helping her down the stairs.
This sighting comes two years after it was reported that the “Roar” actress had been diagnosed with dementia. She had made a brief appearance in a birthday post on Instagram by Griffith last January and was also present at his birthday party in August.
A Spanish journalist named Gustavo Exquiza learned about her condition when he sought an interview with Hedren, only to be informed by her agent that it was not possible. “She has dementia and has no recollection of her history,” he shared. “She just turned 94, and unfortunately, it’s just a product of the passage of time.”
Hedren’s major breakthrough came from her role in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 thriller “The Birds,” for which she received a Golden Globe nomination as Most Promising Newcomer. She reunited with Hitchcock for the film “Marnie” in 1964, but their relationship was famously contentious. In a 2017 interview, she recounted that he had signed her to a contract that he threatened would ruin her career if she chose to leave.
“He said, ‘I’m going to ruin your career,’ and he did,” she recalled. “He kept me under contract and wouldn’t let me work. It was a nightmare… A rather sad situation overall. But anyway, life goes on!”
Despite the difficulties with Hitchcock, Hedren’s career continued to flourish. She appeared in films such as “The Countess of Hong Kong,” “Foxfire,” and “Pacific Heights,” and has even nurtured a family dynasty in acting.
Her daughter, Melanie, started her acting career early, scoring a major role at 17 in “Night Moves,” and continued to lead roles in “Something Wild” and “Working Girl,” for which she won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Academy Award.
Even her granddaughter, Dakota Johnson, has made a name for herself, famously starring as Anastasia Steele in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy and recently in “The Materialist.”
Hedren shared that she’s never felt the need to offer advice to her daughters or granddaughter while navigating the industry. “I would rather watch over them and see their careers grow,” she noted. “Dakota is an incredible woman, and I adore her. We always have a great time together. But as for giving tips, I don’t do it.”
