‘Titanic’ star Kate Winslet reveals what made Leonardo DiCaprio cry while filming ‘Revolutionary Road’

Kate Winslet shares the unique gift she exchanged with Leonardo DiCaprio and the touching story behind it.

In an interview in the September issue Harper’s Bazaar UKwhich is released on August 8, in which Winslet spoke about her friendship with DiCaprio and how the two became close while filming the 2008 movie Revolutionary Road.

The actress told the outlet that while filming the movie, she gave DiCaprio a paperweight engraved with the words “Where you go, I go,” and that she had a dream that he gave her a ring with the same words engraved on it.

“I told him my dream and he cried,” she said. “You could tell he was very moved, and by the end of the shoot, we’d done it for each other.”

Winslet and DiCaprio first met on the set of 1997’s Titanic, where they played lovers Rose and Jack, and reunited a decade later as a married couple living in the 1950s in Revolutionary Road.

The pair have remained close friends since filming Titanic, with Winslet telling Harper’s Bazaar, “I’ve known Leo longer than my kids and my husband!”

Winslet, 48, and DiCaprio, 49, became international stars after the release of the 1997 film, which won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Winslet was nominated for Best Actress. Winslet told the outlet that she had to get used to the new level of fame, saying she often climbs over garden fences to have dinner with neighbors to avoid the paparazzi, and acknowledged that the intense scrutiny was affecting her health.

“There was a lot of bullying against me in the media, and it took a toll on me,” she says. “Think back to when I was in my 20s and I came in all different shapes and sizes.”

These days, the Mare of Easttown star is fully embracing her body. In her latest film, Winslet takes on the role of Lee Miller, a model turned war correspondent who covered the Normandy landings and atrocities in concentration camps during World War II.

Winslet revealed that she had stopped working out to prepare for the role, and that she was purposely showing off her belly when staff told her that she might need to hide it.

“I don’t think anyone would say, ‘You need to do something about those wrinkles,'” she says. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more comfortable with myself, which has helped me care less about what other people think.”

The actress previously said she chose to continue appearing in nude scenes despite facing criticism about her body early in her career, explaining that it made her stronger.

In a September 2023 interview with Vogue magazine, “The Reader” star shared how happy she is to know that young actors today don’t have to suffer from the same pressure she did to look skinny in front of the camera.

“I’m so proud of the young actresses of today, they have no fear at all,” she told Vogue magazine, “and I think, yes, all the foul language, all the struggles, all the years of using my voice and often being criticized and laughed at – it doesn’t matter! It was all worth it, because the culture is changing in ways that I never dreamed of when I was in my 20s.”
