Titans’ Brian Callahan opens up on Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders

As the Titans prepare to make the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, coach Brian Callahan is evaluating top quarterback prospects, Shedule Sanders and Cam Ward.

And unsurprisingly, considering the Titans look more like a quarterback than most in 2025.

Sanders and Ward are both considered to be among the most promising talents in this year's draft class, and coach Callahan said Friday that he has the ability and potential to play at the University of North Texas, which is in the East-West Shrine Bowl. shared his thoughts about.

“You can tell he was raised right,” Callahan said About his first impressions of Sanders. “He's mature. He has a really calm way about him. He seems like a really good kid. I enjoyed talking to him.”

The addition of Callahan highlights Sanders' familiarity with handling the cautions of being the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders. He knows how to handle himself, he pays money, so he has an economic point of view.

“That was a really good first impression,” he concluded.

Sanders completed 74% of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions this past season, finishing eighth in Heisman Trophy voting, which was won by teammate Travis Hunter.

“What stands out the most is his toughness,” Callahan added of Sanders. “He took some pretty big shots and kept rolling. He can stand in the pocket and deliver it. He can move and create a little bit, he has the ability to get out. [of] Pocket, and he creates it himself. He's not necessarily a high-end dynamic scrambler, but when he is, he's productive. And he has a really good feel for anticipation and timing, you can tell he's been coached in that regard. They appear on tape. ”

Callahan also discussed Ward being at least as talented as his counterpart Sanders.

Ward set his Division I career passing TDS records after a strong season at Miami.

“He's doing some really cool things,” Callahan said, referring to Ward. “He's got a really loose throwing motion, and I mean that in the best way. He can turn the ball well. He's got all different arm angles. He has the ability to move and create. He's putting some really impressive throws on tape.

“From what I've seen in limited viewing, without knowing the guy at all, he's incredibly talented. Watching him do some very unique things with his ability to throw the ball. I think there is.”

Callahan is in his second year with the Titans after a five-year stint as the Bengals' offensive coordinator.

Callahan and the Titans went 3-14 last season to take the No. 1 overall pick last season.
