The start of the NFL season has been challenging for the Tennessee Titans, marked by more setbacks than successes. However, Week 6 brought a glimmer of hope as the Titans secured their first win, edging out the Indianapolis Colts 26-20 in a hard-fought match.
Celebrations at the team’s headquarters in Nashville were likely short-lived, though, following an unexpected decision related to defensive lineman Jordan Elliott. On Tuesday, the Titans announced that Elliott had been released, referencing an unspecified “incident” that occurred at the team’s facility.
Elliott had previously played under defensive coordinator Robert Saleh with the San Francisco 49ers before joining the Titans, where Saleh now serves as head coach. This season, he participated in five games, recording a total of 11 tackles.
In a statement, the Titans indicated that the incident took place last Thursday. “On Thursday, Oct. 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott. Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter,” the statement read.
Details regarding the incident remain unclear at this time.
In other roster news, defensive back Alontae Taylor did not play, attributed to a coach’s decision. Saleh did not provide additional information on Taylor’s situation. Notably, Taylor had been a key player, participating in nearly every defensive snap in the previous five games. He had recently signed a significant three-year contract worth $58 million and had tallied 19 tackles and one sack during that stretch.
This week, the Titans will return to Nissan Stadium to take on the Cleveland Browns, who are currently leading the AFC North.
