Tlaib calls for Michigan residents to vote ‘uncommitted’ in upcoming Democratic primary

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) on Saturday called on Michiganders to vote “irresponsibly” in the upcoming Democratic primary.

Tlaib, the only Palestinian American in Congress, is urging the Dearborn, Michigan, Democrat to vote “irresponsible” in Congress in February, citing the Biden administration’s commitment to the Israeli-Hamas war. He said he was dissatisfied with being complicit. Instead of supporting Biden, he will participate in the primary election on the 27th.

“If you want us to be louder, come here and vote irresponsibly,” Tlaib said in the video. Posted According to the “Listen to Michigan” campaign, which took place Saturday. The group hopes to pressure the regime to restructure its approach to the war in Gaza. Mr. Treib is one of the group’s most prominent backers.

“This is a way to raise our voices and make us more visible,” Tlaib said. “Right now we feel completely ignored. Just ignored and ignored by the government.”

Tlaib joins a growing number of Michigan progressive activists who have criticized Biden and his approach to foreign policy. Tlaib has called for a ceasefire in Gaza and criticized the Gaza government since the war began in October. She came under fire in November for criticizing Israel and using the phrase “from the river to the sea,” which has been condemned as anti-Semitic by Jewish groups.

Muslim and Arab American activists leading the Listen to Michigan campaign say they must support the president in the upcoming election or risk losing the state he won by 3 points in 2020. He wants to show the Biden camp that he has a strong sense of gender. November will be a fierce battleground.

“Just saying it out loud is enough,” Tlaib said. “We don’t want a country that supports wars and bombs and destruction. We want to support livelihoods. We want to stand up for every life killed in Gaza.”

White House officials traveled to Michigan this month to meet with local leaders in the state amid anger over the administration’s handling of the ongoing war. In early February, Biden personally visited Michigan to meet with autoworkers and black community leaders just before securing the support of the United Auto Workers (UAW).
