Tobymac Shares Insights on His Bucket List and Career
Tobymac is well-known for his influence in the music industry, but when it comes to his personal aspirations, he keeps it simple. At the K-Love Fan Awards in 2025, he was asked about his bucket list—essentially, things he hopes to achieve before his time is up.
“I think it’s going to end well,” he expressed, reflecting on his lengthy career. He mentioned a desire to finish strong and, interestingly enough, to reconnect with his love for his wife. “I’m really in love with her,” he added with a smile. “I’m thankful she told me she loves me!”
He remarked, “Yeah, those are just kind of bucket list things,” indicating a casual approach to his goals.
Tobymac, a prominent figure in Christian music, boasts an impressive record: 56 songs on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart, 30 of which made it into the top 10, and seven that reached number one. His 2012 album, I Turn My Eyes to That, notably became the first Christian album to top the mainstream Billboard 200 in 15 years. He has also co-written the iconic 1995 song, Jesus Freak.
His tours, especially the annual Hits Deep Tour featuring various artists, have been fundamental to his success. Now at 60, he values the energy that touring brings to his life.
Regarding his fitness, he attributes it to an active lifestyle. “I grew up in a sports-focused family,” he shared. “I still play a lot of basketball and tennis—pickleball someday, maybe.” He’s always been passionate about track and field, preferring movement over gym workouts.
Golf is another activity he enjoys. “I like to walk,” he noted simply.
Spirituality is also crucial for him on the road. “I read the Bible every day,” he stated. “I truly believe that God communicates with us through His Word, and I talk to Him through prayer. If I’m not engaging with God—through reading and praying—then… well, is my relationship with God even real? Staying connected to Him is vital.”
