Investigators Look into Tragic Deaths in Ohio
A troubling situation has emerged regarding the deaths of a young child and his grandparents, who were found dead in their home in Gnadenhutten, Ohio. The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call on Wednesday where a faint voice can be heard asking for “help.”
Upon arrival, deputies discovered 22-month-old Kozzar Lotut, along with 51-year-old Melissa Campbell and 67-year-old Gale Sanders, all deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Their identities were confirmed by the Tuscarawas Coroner’s Office.
Authorities are currently treating the case as a murder-suicide. Sheriff Orvis L. Campbell mentioned that all evidence suggests this theory, stating, “If I had to say the evidence was leaning one way, it’s definitely leaning towards a murder-suicide. We’re pretty confident, you know, that it happened within the home.”
Interestingly, it was noted that the grandparents were responsible for the care of their granddaughter, who had some medical disabilities. This tragedy raises many questions about what might have led to such a heartbreaking outcome.
Prior to her death, Melissa Campbell was reported to be working as a registered nurse at a local health care center. It’s worth considering how those in close proximity may have perceived her situation—friends, colleagues, or even clients might have noticed something amiss but couldn’t quite put their finger on it.
The discovery of the three victims came after responders encountered challenges in tracing the initial 911 call. The caller hung up, and after several attempts to reconnect, the dispatchers finally received the brief plea for help that led them to the address on Cherry Street.
After the great-grandmother of the child opened the door for investigators, the bodies were taken to the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office for examination, with results on the causes of death still pending. There seem to be many unanswered questions and, hopefully, further information will come to light in due time.
“Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as appropriate,” stated the Coroner’s Office. The investigation continues as authorities piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
