Their 18-month-old daughter, Azana Trentman, was found unresponsive on September 4 and was rushed to hospital after her parents realised something was wrong. KFVS12 reportedThe child was confirmed dead on September 8th.

Azana's parents, Austin Trentman and Shayna Wood, took her to a thrift store in Dillsboro, where she played with the backpack while they looked around, Azana's grandmother, Tawnya Wood, wrote on Facebook on September 7.

“At some point, Azana found something in her backpack which she swallowed,” she wrote. “Austin didn't know what it was so he quickly cleaned his mouth and made him vomit. He tasted the substance and it was sweet, like melted candy. Azana was acting normally so they concluded it was probably candy and went about their day.”

The girl's parents then realized she needed emergency medical attention and rushed her to the hospital, where she was stabilized and transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

After several days of testing, toxicology reports showed the substance to be fruit-flavored, soluble suboxone tablets, Azana's grandmother wrote.

Although Azana's life was cut short, her parents chose to donate her organs to three transplant recipients.

“Azana's donation will not only save and improve the lives of the three beneficiaries, but through them, it will also provide a means for her to survive,” the girl's grandmother said in another post.
