Tom Brady doesn't seem to approve of the way Daniel Jones spent his final days with the Giants.
Brady criticized Jones on FOX during the Giants-Cowboys Thanksgiving game.
“I don't know how that whole situation went down, but the thought of asking for release from a team that gave you so much was probably not the way I would have handled it,” Brady said. spoke. “I always wanted to earn the trust and respect of my teammates no matter the situation. I knew I was doing what was best for the team because that's the most important thing.”
The Giants benched Jones last week before the team's 30-7 loss to the Buccaneers.
They then opted to start third-stringer Tommy DeVito, bypassing reserve Drew Lock.
They also added Tim Boyle to the practice squad, demoting Jones from starter to fourth string.
Jones specifically had an injury clause in his contract with the Giants, guaranteeing him $23 million if he was injured during the offseason and missed a medical exam.
Therefore, if the Giants decided to bench Jones, it was expected that he would be demoted to the third or fourth team to prevent possible injuries.
During practice last Friday, the Giants at times had Jones stand at safety on the scout team.
The next day, Mr. Jones sought and was granted his release to end his turbulent five-year tenure.
“There's some different things going on in the NFL,” Brady said. “Everyone makes individual choices. I think we all face different challenges in our careers. I played against them in college. Sometimes things don't go your way. But the most important thing for me was the players in the locker room.
“I showed up every day. I didn't care if I was asked to be scout team safety or scout team quarterback. I was going to do whatever I could to help the team win.”
Jones signed with the Vikings on Wednesday.
