Tom Brady Surprised by Draft Outcome
Tom Brady seems just as taken aback as anyone that he went all the way to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The celebrated quarterback, who has a minority stake in the Raiders, mentioned he was not involved in the decision to pass on Shedeur Sanders multiple times in Las Vegas.
During an appearance on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast, Brady discussed why Sanders ended up with the Browns at pick 144 overall.
“That’s a good question. I wasn’t part of the evaluation process,” Brady shared.
Co-host Mike Majlak chimed in, referencing Skip Bayless’s view on the matter.
Brady replied, “I know. That’s the problem with the media; everyone can say whatever they want.” He seemed frustrated with how narratives are shaped.
The Raiders made seven selections, starting with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at sixth overall before the Browns picked Sanders.
Brady reflected on his own experience, noting that he was drafted by the Patriots back in 2000 at 199th overall in the sixth round, ultimately winning seven Super Bowls. He reached out to Sanders, telling him, “No matter what happens, Day 2 is more crucial than the draft itself. I was 199. Who knows better about this than I do? Use it as motivation. Your opportunity will come—make the most of it.”
This year, the Raiders also drafted two quarterbacks in the sixth round: Tommy Melot from Montana at pick 213 and Cammy Miller from North Dakota two picks later.
According to reports, Brady was not physically present with the team during the draft but maintained constant communication and expressed appreciation for Miller. He praised the road that Raiders GM John Spytek paved for the team as well as his technique and movements.
