Brady Observes Raiders Game from Coaching Box
Tom Brady stepped into a new role as he donned a headset while watching the Raiders’ home game against the Chargers, which ended in a 20-9 loss for Las Vegas. As a minority owner of the Raiders and an analyst for Fox, he took in the action from the coaching box.
Just the day before, he had commented on the Chiefs’ victory over the Eagles in their Super Bowl rematch, where the Eagles lost 20-17 on the road.
During the ESPN broadcast, viewers saw Brady looking sharp in a suit, seated behind the coach’s box with a laptop in front of him. ESPN’s Peter Schrager shared insights about Brady’s involvement with the team, sparking curiosity around his role as an owner.
“I was really wondering how much involvement Brady has with this team,” Schrager expressed in an interview. “Chip Kelly, the Raiders’ offensive coordinator, mentioned he talks to Brady a couple of times a week to review film and game strategies; having him around is certainly a plus.”
However, new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll pushed back on reports suggesting multiple weekly discussions with Kelly and Brady. “That’s not accurate,” Carroll stated, explaining that while they do have conversations, it’s not as frequent as speculated. “We all respect each other; it’s a good environment where we discuss football and life.”
This week marks just one instance this season where Brady can join the team’s activities, due to conflicting broadcast obligations. Last Sunday, he was in Missouri while the Raiders aimed for a second consecutive win, especially after the Chiefs fell to 0-2.
Recently, Brady secured a 5% ownership stake in the Raiders, a move officially sanctioned by the NFL in October of last year. Initially, the league kept him from attending a broadcast conference during his first season as a commentator, but lifted that restriction in the offseason. He still can’t participate in practice sessions.
Dan Orlovsky, an ESPN announcer, emphasized how significant Brady’s involvement could be for the struggling Raiders franchise. “Just look at the advantages,” he noted. “You have access to Tom Brady, who texts coaches like Patrick Graham, getting involved where he can.”
Looking ahead, Brady will be calling the Bears vs. Cowboys game in Chicago during Week 3, scheduled for 4:25 PM ET.
