Tom Cruise Sets Guinness World Record with Death-Defying Stunt
Just when it seemed like Tom Cruise had already pushed the limits of stunts in his films, he has now set a new Guinness World Record for a breathtaking stunt in “Mission: Impossible – Final Calculation.” This particular sequence involved him grabbing a parachute in a hectic situation, where his main chute malfunctioned and ignited in flames.
Cruise executed this incredible stunt from a helicopter, jumping out at an altitude of over 7,500 feet in the Drakensberg region of South Africa. According to Guinness World Records, the actor completed a total of 16 perilous stunts, making a significant impact in the world of action filmmaking.

In its announcement, the Guinness World Records remarked that Cruise’s stunts have earned him the title for “the most burning parachute jumps by an individual.” The exhilarating scene features Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, who, at a critical moment, discarded his main parachute and deployed a reserve parachute just in the nick of time, delivering the thrilling experience fans have come to expect from the 62-year-old actor.
“What I’m aiming to do is unfold,” Cruz stated in a Paramount promotional video. “[And] if this is twisting while it’s burning, I’m spinning and burning. I have to kick out of the twist and then light it. I got 10 seconds.”
Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, remarked, “Tom doesn’t realize what record-breaking means.” He highlighted that throughout his extensive career, Cruise has established himself as one of the most formidable actors in Hollywood, known not just for his star power but also for the impressive box office success of his films, particularly in the major action genre.
