Tom Hardy recently opened up about his health struggles in an interview with Esquire, revealing that he’s been dealing with several significant issues.
“I’ve had two knee surgeries, my back has a herniated disc, and I also have sciatica,” he explained. “And I think I’ve got… is it plantar fasciitis? I’m not sure where that came from or why.”
“I even pulled a tendon in my lower back,” he added, expressing a sense of frustration. “It feels like everything is going downhill right now, and I don’t see it improving.”
Hardy has taken on physically demanding roles in the “Venom” trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises,” and “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
“I was running towards something, thinking I needed to prove myself, but now I realize I’m not getting anywhere,” he noted about his career. “Gastric ulcer? Blood pressure issues? My knees are deteriorating, my hair is thinning, and my teeth are in bad shape. I’m almost 50, you know.”
“Maybe it’s about self-worth or something like not finishing school, just… not enough,” he continued. “But this is me saying, ‘I’ll prove everyone wrong.’ But for whom? Honestly, who cares? I know what I can do.”
The star of “Mobland” shared that he has been experimenting with homeopathic remedies like tinctures and has even looked into stem cell treatments. “When you’re back in the game, you seek advice on anything,” he remarked.
Despite feeling like he’s at the tail end of his career, Hardy isn’t considering retirement just yet.
“I’m not done yet,” Hardy stated. “But people keep asking, ‘What’s next for you?'”
His interview took place back in March, during what was a busy period for him. He had just wrapped up his promotional tour for “Venom: The Last Dance,” completed filming on “Mobland,” and began pushing the new Paramount+ crime drama series.
“I was feeling a bit off today,” he confessed to the interviewer. “As I start work again, things seem better, but I was just sitting there during our chat.”
Later, Hardy reflected on his Hollywood journey, noting it hasn’t quite met his expectations. “The more I learn, the less I understand,” he said. “If you’re a successful actor and think you’ve reached the top of Everest, it turns out that was just the first of many climbs!”
