Border Issue Discussion on MSNBC
During a segment on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Tom Homan, a notable figure in border control discussions, criticized Massachusetts Democrats for their stance on illegal immigration, suggesting that they should take responsibility for the presence of illegal aliens in their communities.
Homan highlighted specific cases of illegal immigrants recently arrested in Massachusetts, stating that officials like Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu and Governor Maura Healy should appreciate the role of immigration enforcement in enhancing community safety.
He remarked, “They are sanctuary cities, and sanctuary states provide safe havens for criminals.” Homan also urged local officials to cooperate with immigration authorities, which would enable them to detain illegal aliens already in local custody.
He emphasized that their operations are focused on public safety, pointing to the fact that “governors and mayors release public safety threats into our communities daily.” This is a concerning trend, he argued.
In response to Homan’s comments, co-host Mika Brzezinski expressed her distress over the sight of an ICE vehicle parked near a Spanish-speaking church, noting it as “a horrifying sight given the context of our nation’s history.”
Despite reaching out, neither Wu nor Healy provided comments to follow up on Homan’s remarks.
The Department of Homeland Security has initiated operations in Massachusetts and Illinois, focusing on significant groups of illegal immigrants within these sanctuary jurisdictions. A legal ruling favoring the Trump administration allowed immigration sweeps to proceed despite previous attempts to block them in court.
Homan mentioned a specific operation named “Operation Midway Blitz,” which is dedicated to honoring victims like Katie Abraham, who lost her life in a drunk driving incident involving an illegal alien. Homan underscored that these efforts are intended to address the criminal elements attracted to sanctuary policies.
