Tom Homan responds to AOC for mocking him during immigration town hall.

Border Concerns Raised by Tom Homan

Tom Homan, a former immigration official, recently made comments regarding Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) town hall meeting, where she addressed the Trump administration’s deportation policies. He expressed his disapproval, suggesting that the dynamics of the situation have shifted.

“I feel joyful,” Homan said during an interview with Laura Ingraham. His concerns centered around Ocasio-Cortez educating individuals on how to avoid law enforcement, stating, “But the table has changed.” He claimed she instructs people on how to evade prosecution despite having a final deportation order.

According to him, failing to comply with such orders is illegal. Homan emphasized, “It is a crime to take steps to not comply with an ICE removal order or to obstruct a detained ICE case. You can’t evade a removal ordered by a federal judge.” He advised Ocasio-Cortez to review U.S. Code Title 8, Section 1253.

Contentious Town Hall Atmosphere

At the town hall event, Ocasio-Cortez faced intense criticism, with participants accusing her of lying about the situation in Gaza, yelling claims of “genocide.” Despite the hostility, she maintained that she isn’t intimidated by Homan’s remarks and defended her office’s initiatives, which included a “know your rights” webinar for immigrants this past February.

This webinar aimed to inform attendees of their rights when approached by deportation officers. Participants learned to ask for warrants and how to distinguish between them when ICE agents were summoned.

Homan labeled her actions illegal, asserting that they hinder immigration enforcement efforts. In response, Ocasio-Cortez challenged him, saying, “I have used my right to free speech to advise people on their constitutional protections. If they want to make it illegal, they can bring me in.” The audience reacted positively to her defiance.

Homan warned that criminal charges would be pursued against those obstructing deportations, stating the enforcement measures would intensify starting Wednesday. “The game is over,” he declared, stressing that they were focused on removing public safety threats from communities.

He indicated that efforts would involve an increased presence of law enforcement, asserting, “We are taking these public safety threats off the streets with your help or without your help.”
