Tom Homan, President-elect Trump's nominee for border czar, criticized Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) after he called her crazy.
On Saturday, Crockett appeared on MSNBC to denounce the Trump administration's mass deportation plans, claiming the government would separate families and place people in immigration detention centers.
Homan then joined Newsmax on Monday, where she dismissed her criticism.
“So, look, I don't know who this woman is,” Homan said. Highlighted by Mediaite. “I don't care what they say about Tom Homan, because I've been doing this for a long time.”
Homan served as an agent for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2017 and 2018 before retiring. The nomination as border czar marks Trump's second time Homan has come out of retirement.
Homan said President Trump has given him a mandate to fix the border and save lives, and the country gave him that mandate in the recent election.
He argued that the Biden administration's immigration and border security policies are killing and harming both Americans and immigrants.
“President Trump is going to protect this border and save the lives of not only Americans but also foreigners,” Homan said.
Mr. Homan was an early advocate of family separation, but the idea has faced fierce opposition for being a deterrent.
Mr. Homan said in a recent interview with the Washington Post that he plans to reinstate the family detention policy, which Mr. Crockett criticized on a weekend broadcast.
He dismissed that criticism on Monday.
“All of a sudden, the discussion moves from family detention to family separation,” Homan said. “Family detention is the opposite of family separation.”
